The academics at St. Matthew Catholic School reach beyond the subjects that we teach. We measure our academic strength by the environment that we provide to our students, the passion with which our instructors teach, and the commitment to preparing our students for their future.St. Matthew Catholic School encourages students to strive for excellence in all areas of their scholastic life so that they will be well-rounded and successful. We provide the highest quality education for our children through our exemplary faculty, a rigorous academic curriculum, and the use of advanced technology in the classroom.
St. Matthew students are motivated to study hard, and they are recognized for their efforts in our Honor Roll program, which celebrates the quarterly achievements of our 4th through 8th graders who have earned an average of 90 or above.
Even our youngest students begin on a path toward academic success by participating in programs like Mathletics, Accelerated Reader, and Success Maker. As early as 1st grade, students can choose to represent St. Matthew Catholic School in the Private School Interscholastic Association (PSIA), which is a district and statewide competition that allows students to pursue higher level mastery of specific academic fields, including mathematics, science, language arts, fine arts, and humanities.

Faculty in all grade levels use assessment tools, such as developmental milestones, benchmarks, work samples, and observations. At St. Matthew Catholic School, we also use the NWEA MAP Growth test scores as key tools by which we can measure and compare our effectiveness.
By adapting to each student’s learning level, MAP Growth creates a personalized assessment experience that accurately measures each student’s performance and growth. The test is administered three times per year, delivering timely reports that provide essential information to teachers that can be used to improve both teaching and learning.
Parents receive norms to compare their child’s performance at a single point in time, with the performance and growth of other students nationwide in the same grade at a comparable stage of the school year. Parents can then monitor their student’s growth over time.
The MAP Growth test is aligned with Texas curriculum standards. Teachers do not alter instruction to prepare for the test. Instead, instruction is driven by results of the previous tests.
St. Matthew students are challenged to meet rigorous academic standards. Progress reports are sent at the midway point of each grading period. Report cards are distributed at the end of each nine week grading period. Grades are prepared using the Archdiocesan model shown below:
