Coach Rolando Hernandez Jr. earned his Bachelors of Exercise and Sports Science from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas in 2011. He is going on his 8th year teaching Physical Education at St. Matthews. Coach Hernandez previously coached at Antonian College Prep and served as the Assistant Varsity Coach for the Baseball Team. He has been involved with the Sports teams at St. Matthews for many years. Coach Hernandez is the Head Coach for the Soccer Team (12th year), Cross Country Team (7th year), Track and Field (9th year), and Softball Team (7th year) for the Middle School Athletic Program. In addition to teaching and coaching, Coach Hernandez is the Teacher Sponsor for the Safety Patrols. Coach Hernandez currently teaches all Elementary Physical Education at St. Matthew Catholic School.
Coach Hernandez’s Sport Teams have been very successful in his tenure as the Head Coach. Soccer have won 3 city championship (2008, 2012, 2016), Boy’s Cross Country 5 championships (2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017), Girl’s Cross Country 4 championships (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017), Track and Field 2 championship (2014, 2017), and Softball 2 championship (2016, 2018).
Coach Hernandez has been a part of Catholic Schools his whole life. Coach Hernandez is an Alumni having graduated from St. Matthews in 2003. After graduating from Antonian in 2007, he went to St. Mary’s University where he meet his wife Desiree Hernandez. They just celebrated their third Wedding Anniversary.
