History of our School

The story of St. Matthew Catholic School begins in 1992. Msgr. John Flynn was pastor of St. Matthew Catholic Church when a survey revealed the parishioners desire for a parish school. Msgr. Flynn undertook the project with the firm belief that a parish school strengthened the religious education of the parish and strengthened parish life as a whole.

Ground was broken for the new school in January 1993 and St. Matthew Catholic School opened with an enrollment of just under 400 students on August 18, 1993.

The school was dedicated by Bishop Joseph Galante on October 10, 1993.

Sr. Patrice Floyd, IWBS, was the first principal at St. Matthew Catholic School. St. Matthew opened with a full schedule for students at all current grade levels. School enrollment continued to grow and new classes were added at each grade level. Currently, St. Matthew Catholic School is honored to serve over 600 students in PreK3 through 8th grade each school day.

Beyond the brick and mortar of our school building, St. Matthew Catholic School has and will continue to be part of an exciting story as our students learn, grow and thrive in an environment that values their gifts and their individuality. When our 8th graders leave us to pursue their next achievements they take with them the lessons and purpose of our school. In turn, St. Matthew Catholic School remains dedicated to those who are currently with us and those who will follow.
