The school library serves the students, faculty and staff of St. Matthew School. It provides educational reading and research materials as well as materials for recreational reading.
The library is open from 8:00 am until 3:20 pm every day. Students visit the library with their classes at assigned times. During the week and while the library is not in use by a class, students are allowed to visit the library to return and check out books with teacher/librarian permission.
Book Checkout
Students who are able to check out multiple books at a time are encouraged to use common sense when determining the number of books he or she is able to read at a time.
Overdue Books, Damaged Books and Fines
If a student has a book that is overdue by more than one week, the student will lose checkout privileges until the book is returned. If a book is lost, student will lose checkout privileges until the payment is made for replacement.
If a book is returned in a damaged condition, librarian will assess damages to determine if repairs are able to be made. A fee may be assessed if a book is returned in damaged condition (other than normal wear and tear) to cover cost of repair materials. If book has irreparable damage, student will be required to pay cost of replacement.
Each book that is overdue by more than one week should be returned to the library along with a “fine” of one canned good per book for donation to St. Vincent de Paul.
Please see the school handbook for more details on fine payments.
