Mrs. Garza was born and raised in Austin. She graduated from The University of Texas in 1992 with a Liberal Arts degree, but soon found her true calling was teaching. She was a 1st grade, preK, and Reading Recovery teacher for 9 years at Austin ISD before taking a break to have a family. Soon after, she began teaching PreK at her parish, St. Louis Catholic Church, for 10 years before moving to San Antonio in 2014. She has taught 1st grade and kindergarten at St. Matthew for 5 years. She has been married to Mr. Garza for 20 years. They have 3 children: Sofia, a sophomore at Texas A&M, Tomas, a junior at Central Catholic, and Olivia, a 7th grader at St. Matthew. She loves the community at St. Matthew, and loves the city she used to visit so often during her childhood. During her free time Mrs. Garza enjoys cooking, reading and walking.
