Susan Vallot has been at St. Matthew from the beginning in 1993! She began teaching 1st grade in 1995 and has been at the same grade level for the past 26 years. Although first grade is often referred to as the most challenging to teach, Ms. Vallot loves that challenge and is so fulfilled each year when she sees her students thrive in their reading skills.
Ms. Vallot grew up in Beaumont. She has 3 sisters and one brother. She is not married and unfortunately has no children of her own, but has always doted on her nieces, nephews, and now loves spoiling her great-nieces and nephews.
James Avery jewelry brought Ms. Vallot to San Antonio in 1988. She loved working at a Christian company but knew God was leading her in a different direction when St. Matthew broke ground on a new school in 1992. She decided to go back to college to gain her teacher certification and applied for a job at St. Matthew, and was hired as a PreK assistant.
Ms. Vallot has a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Lamar University and holds a Texas Teacher Certification from UTSA with a specialization in Reading.
While St. Matthew is the parish she attends most often, Ms. Vallot likes to go to Holy Spirit (which is her home parish) as well. She has been on an ACTS Retreat, been a member of an ACTS team, taught CCD, and at one time was an active member of the Young Adults Group all at St. Matthew.
While she has many favorite things about St. Matthew, Ms. Vallot loves the family feeling among the faculty, staff, parents, and students the most. This feeling is what keeps her going after 28 years! She still keeps in touch with many of her former students and their families. They often will come by the school just to say hello, send her a text or email, and that warms her heart. As the saying goes, “Once a Cardinal, Always a Cardinal”.
